Tengiz Shamov, born in 1978 in Krasnodar, graduated from the Krasnodar Art School. His artistic research delves into the exploration of social environments and collective memory, often juxtaposing the imaginary and the physical worlds. Shamov’s work is characterized by its internal resources, which do not seek approval or provoke displeasure. Instead, his world unfolds before our eyes according to its own clear and logical, yet simultaneously irrational and fantastic laws, creating an irresistible magic.
Tengiz is a realist artist, a “photographer of context.” The figures in paintings are often engaged in activities that contrast dramatically with their predominantly dark backgrounds. This juxtaposition of joyful leisure against a shadowed and moody atmosphere serves as a metaphor for the struggle against the collective loss of a childhood that never truly existed. This contrast not only highlights the complexity of human experiences but also invites viewers to reflect on the deeper themes of nostalgia and existential angst.
